2010 End of Year Dinner
- The 1933 Cuban Revolution

You are cordially invited to the Social Action Australia 2010 End of Year Dinner. A talk will be given by David Bennett, the Director of Social Action Pty Ltd entitled:

The Relevance of the 1933 Cuban Revolution

The Social Action Australia 2010 End of Year Dinner will be held on Saturday the 11th of December at 7:00 pm for a 7:30 pm start. The venue will be:

The downstairs function room of the Kew Hotel, 99 High Street, Kew Victoria, 3101, Kew Junction. (Melways reference 45 B6)

David has previously written on Cuban history and politics in articles that have appeared on the Historical and Current Affairs website, (hcaa.wordpress.com). The speaker has particularly focused on the Cuban political leader, Fulgencio Batista Zaldivar’s (1901- 1973) positive impact on Cuban history.

The former Cuban president is some-one who underwent a transformation from being revered to an unfairly reviled historical figure. A major objective of the talk is to contribute to another transformation, that of a reviled tyrant to a statesman who took Cuba from dictatorship to democracy.

Such a re-assessment is particularly apt because Cuba is now at a position under the Castros that it was toward the end of the dictatorship of Gerardo Machado (1925-1933), i.e.: there is a simmering discontent and a determination on the part of the Cuban people to regain their political freedom.

There will be ample opportunity to ask questions and/or make comments at the conclusion of the speaker’s talk.

Meals and drinks can be purchased at the bar; otherwise there are no costs to attend the end of year dinner.

RSVP: Wednesday the 9th of December 2010
